New York State Still Blue: He Jinli Leads Trump by a Large Margin in Polls

With less than seven weeks left until the presidential election voting day, according to the latest opinion poll from Siena College, Vice President Kamala Harris continues to lead former President Trump in New York state by a double-digit margin.

Siena College conducted the survey among 1,003 voters in New York state from September 11 to 16. In a head-to-head matchup, Harris led with 55% support, significantly ahead of Trump at 42%, compared to last month’s poll where Harris had 53% support and Trump had 39%. With independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy and others in the race, Harris still maintains a lead with 52% support, ahead of Trump’s 40%, with other candidates only receiving a total of 3% support. In terms of favorability, 53% of voters have a favorable opinion of Harris, while 44% do not, and 39% have a favorable opinion of Trump, while 57% do not, showing little change from the previous month.

Voters were also asked which candidate they believe is more capable of solving specific issues. On the abortion issue, Harris leads Trump with 60% to 34%; on democracy issues, Harris leads with 56% to Trump’s 40%; on economic issues, Harris leads with 52% to Trump’s 45%; and on immigration issues, they are tied with Harris at 48% and Trump at 47%.

Steven Greenberg, an expert in opinion polls at Siena College, analyzed that the poll indicates New York remains a steadfast “blue” state supporting the Democratic Party, although it may not be as “deep blue” as in past presidential elections. In the six presidential elections of this century, the Democratic presidential candidate in New York state has led the Republican candidate by at least 18 percentage points. In the 2020 presidential election, Biden led Trump by 23 percentage points.
