JetBlue Airways to Set Up Airport Lounges in New York and Boston

In a bid to attract high-end travelers and gain a larger market share in the increasingly competitive airline industry, JetBlue Airways, a low-cost airline in the United States, announced on Thursday that they will be opening their first airport lounges in New York and Boston next year.

According to the Associated Press, JetBlue Airways revealed on Thursday that by the end of next year, they will be launching an 8,000-square-foot lounge at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, followed shortly by an 11,000-square-foot lounge at Boston Logan International Airport.

These lounges will primarily cater to the top-tier members of the company’s TrueBlue frequent flyer program and those who hold the new premium credit cards set to be launched by JetBlue Airways. If there are available seats, the airline will also sell day passes to the lounge.

Jayne O’Brien, the head of marketing and customer support at the New York-based airline, stated that these lounges are one of the measures taken by JetBlue Airways to provide better services to high-end leisure travelers on the East Coast of the United States.

O’Brien mentioned in an interview with the Associated Press, “The lounges have been something we’ve been considering for some time, and now it’s the right time to offer these extra benefits to our most esteemed customers.”

JetBlue Airways declined to disclose the costs involved in constructing and operating these lounges, which are essential facilities at major airports for large U.S. airlines such as American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines.

According to reports from Delta Air Lines and United Airlines, revenue growth from high-end passengers outpaces that from other passenger groups.

O’Brien noted that based on the performance of the lounges at John F. Kennedy International Airport and Boston Logan International Airport, JetBlue Airways will consider opening lounges at other airports.
