Japanese Boy Stabbed on His Way to School in Shenzhen

China has once again witnessed an attack on Japanese individuals. On Wednesday morning, a male student from the Shenzhen Japanese School was attacked and injured by a man on his way to school. The suspect has been detained.

According to Japanese officials quoted by the Yomiuri Shimbun, the student was stabbed and is currently receiving treatment in the hospital. The suspect has been detained by the Chinese authorities and is undergoing questioning.

During a press conference on that morning, Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Hiroshi Moriya expressed, “From the perspective of protecting Japanese citizens, we have made requests to the local government, including measures to prevent such incidents from happening again and sharing details.”

He also stated that the Japanese government will immediately dispatch consular officials to the scene to verify the facts and offer necessary assistance.

This is the second attack on Japanese individuals in mainland China recently. In June of this year, a Chinese man attacked a Japanese mother and son with a knife in Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province.

The Chinese authorities have categorized the incident as a “random occurrence” and have not yet disclosed the results of the investigation or the motive behind the attack.

September 18 is the anniversary of the “Mukden Incident” that took place on September 18, 1931, a military and political conflict between the Chinese Northeast Army and the Japanese Kwantung Army, marking the beginning of the Japanese invasion of China. In recent years, due to the anti-Japanese education by the Chinese authorities, anti-Japanese sentiment has spread in mainland China, leading to incidents of attacks on Japanese individuals.
