Guangxi Longzhou hit by once-in-a-decade flood, 150,000 people affected

Due to the impact of the residual cloud system of Typhoon “Capricorn”, Guangxi has experienced consecutive days of heavy rain, leading to multiple rivers exceeding their warning levels and causing flooding. As of 8 a.m. on the 10th, in Guangxi, the left side of the river and its tributary Ming River, Yuzhou River, and the tributary of the right side of the river, the Lushui River, among 17 stations, the water levels have exceeded the warning levels by 0.03 to 4.77 meters.

The rising water levels have trapped Chongzuo city and townships in floods, leading to disruptions in transportation. A netizen named “SixBrotherFryNoodles” posted a video showing that the water level in Ningming County, Chongzuo City, has exceeded the warning level by 4.20 meters. Some roads in Ningming County, as well as some residential houses and shops, have been flooded. The floods have also affected the power supply, which is currently under repair but not fully restored yet.

According to reports from China News Network, as of 8 a.m. on the 9th, this typhoon has affected 150,000 people in Ningming County, Chongzuo City, located on the China-Vietnam border. 1190 people have been evacuated, 12 houses have been damaged, and the affected area of crops is around 275,000 mu, with an estimated direct economic loss of about 96 million CNY.

In Longzhou County, which is also located on the China-Vietnam border, the water level of the left river section has been rising, leading to a rare flood event in Longzhou county. As of 8 a.m. on the 10th, hydrological information shows that the water level in the Longzhou city section of the left river is 121.97 meters, exceeding the warning level by 4.77 meters.

Reported by “Southern Country Morning Post” on the 9th, the flood in Longzhou County has caused flash floods in Helong Street, Longzhou Town, submerging the first floor with water depth of about 2.5 meters. Residents along the street were trapped in their homes, and by 11:55 p.m. on the same day, a total of 36 people were evacuated.

A resident in Longzhou city, Mr. Huang, told reporters on the morning of the 10th, “During the peak of the flood last night, around 10 to 11 p.m., the water in Baisha Street was almost up to thigh level. This morning, the water level has noticeably receded, and now everyone is busy cleaning up the mud.”

As of the afternoon on the 10th, a video posted by a netizen named “SpringRollVillage” shows that some roads in parts of Chongzuo, Guangxi are still flooded, with water levels not reaching car wheels. Houses along the street are submerged in water, and the netizen commented that many vehicles have also been flooded.

Another villager shared a video saying, “All the vegetables and rice fields we worked hard to grow are gone, turning into a water village overnight.”

According to the Chongzuo Meteorological Department, in the next 24 hours, the water level in the Chongzuo city section of the left river is expected to rise by around 0.6 meters, and the water level in the Fushui County city section of the left river is expected to rise by about 1.5 meters. The water level in the Ningming County city section of the Ming River is expected to rise by approximately 0.2 meters. The Ping’er River, Ming River upstream, and left river upstream are in a decreasing water level state.

According to China Weather Network, in the next three days (September 10 to 12), the remnants of Typhoon “Capricorn” will continue to bring heavy rainfall to Guangxi, Yunnan, and other areas. Due to the combined effects of cold air and rainfall, there will be significant temperature fluctuations in many northern regions over the next week, while the eastern part of the Sichuan Basin and the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River will experience frequent high temperature weather, with temperatures above 37°C in Chongqing and other areas.
