Taiwan group visits Chile to seek support for Taiwan’s accession to CPTPP.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) stated that a delegation from Taiwan visited Chile to strengthen industrial cooperation and seek support for Taiwan’s accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) issued a press release stating that in order to enhance industrial cooperation with Chile and garner support for Taiwan’s entry into the CPTPP, the ministry commissioned the Taiwan Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Partners Alliance to organize a “Hydrogen Industry Inspection Mission” to visit Chile from September 2nd to 6th to engage in discussions on hydrogen-related topics.

According to the Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in alignment with the global net-zero emissions vision, Chile put forward the “Green Hydrogen Diplomacy” proposal in 2020, aiming to establish Chile as a global hub for green hydrogen research, development, production, and exportation. Taiwan also included hydrogen energy in the “Taiwan 2050 Net Zero Transition 12 Key Strategic Initiatives” in 2022.

During the visit to Chile, the Taiwan delegation exchanged views with the Chilean Economic Development Agency (CORFO), InvestChile, the Formosa Club of Congress, the Hydrogen Association (H2 Chile), and related companies, and visited the Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Exhibition (Hyvolution Chile) in Chile.

Furthermore, the Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the Taiwan Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Partners Alliance signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Chilean Hydrogen Association, declaring their joint commitment to accelerate the promotion of Taiwan-Chile hydrogen industry cooperation.

The Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that Chile is one of the 12 member countries of the CPTPP. The ministry will continue to promote Taiwan’s accession to Chile and other member countries, emphasizing that Taiwan’s membership will contribute to mutual economic and trade development and foster a friendly atmosphere between Taiwan and its partners, aiming to gain consensus and support from member countries for Taiwan’s case as soon as possible.
