In-flight magazine suspected of publishing surrogacy advertisement sparks controversy; Xiamen Airlines: All to be taken down.

Recently, a video posted by internet users on September 4th revealed an advertisement for surrogate pregnancy in the magazine of Xiamen Airlines on a flight from Guizhou to Fuzhou, sparking discussions among netizens.

The video shared by internet users shows the surrogate pregnancy advertisement featured in the September 2024 issue of “Xiamen Airlines” magazine, published by a company called “Thailand Oriental International” claiming to offer a full-process fertility solution. The advertisement claims “enjoy the beautiful results without experiencing the hardship of ten months,” “a complete life with both sons and daughters,” “freeze your fertility age,” “overseas test tube”, “give birth whenever you want.”

Below the advertisement, information indicates that the company has an overseas service team, five overseas self-operated fertility and postpartum care centers, and has already given birth to 9,907 “Thai babies” just in May 2024.

The internet user criticized, “not needing to carry a pregnancy for ten months, this implication should not be so obvious,” “can such an industry chain advertise openly abroad without worrying about domestic regulations?” “The key point is why this advertisement is printed in Xiamen Airlines’ official magazine?”

The video sparked the attention of netizens. Some netizens revealed: “This is a huge industry chain, mainly catering to the needs of wealthy individuals, so…”.

There were also comments from netizens: “Targeted at first-class passengers.” “The airline business is truly extensive.” “If advertisements are being placed here, it indicates strong backing.” “Open and blatant.” “Capital has gone unchecked.” “Terrifying, infiltration is everywhere.” “Too disgusting, must strongly resist!” “Can one make money without any moral boundaries?” “There are too many dark industries.”

A netizen from Shaanxi stated, “They are also posted in elevators in our community… I just noticed.”

After the news circulated online, on the evening of September 5th, Xiamen Air Media Technology Co., Ltd. (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Xiamen Airlines) issued a statement responding that they are aware that the information circulating online is from the September issue of “Xiamen Airlines” magazine organized by the company. The company stated that they will cease all cooperation with the relevant advertisers and ensure that all issues are resolved by September 5th.

However, some netizens in the video comments section questioned: “Are they sure they have taken it down? I flew with Xiamen Airlines yesterday and today, and I still saw these brochures.” “Removing it is the end of the issue? Apologize. Otherwise, strict investigation is necessary.”
