Los Angeles County officer shot, saved by bulletproof vest.

On Monday afternoon, a motorcycle officer from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) was shot while waiting at a red light in West Covina. The police announced the arrest of a suspect on Tuesday.

According to FOX 11, the shooting occurred around 3 p.m. near the 10 Freeway in West Covina, at the intersection of N. Barranca Street and E. Garvey Avenue.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna stated that Officer Samuel Aispuro was shot in the back while waiting at the intersection, and he was subsequently taken to the ambulance with his consciousness intact.

Aispuro was wearing a bulletproof vest at the time, which Luna credited for saving his life.

On Tuesday, the police said the suspect was arrested by “another law enforcement agency,” and investigators believe this person was involved in the shooting of Aispuro. Luna is set to hold a press conference at 1 p.m. in downtown Los Angeles.

On Monday at 3:30 p.m., authorities also surrounded a house on Mangate Avenue in La Puente and detained several individuals. However, they are likely not related to the case and will be released soon.

Luna had previously mentioned that the police were looking for a white sedan with tinted windows, last seen traveling west on the 10 Freeway from Barranca Street.

“Someone is out there with a gun, shooting our officer in the back,” Luna said. “I believe he could shoot at anyone else, and we need to get him off the streets.”

Aispuro has been working in the department for nearly twenty years, is married, and has two young children.
