Russian Attack on Ukrainian Hotel: Reuters War Correspondent Missing, Two Hospitalized

According to a report by Reuters, after an attack on a hotel in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk, one member of the Reuters journalist team has gone missing, while two others are hospitalized.

In a statement, Reuters indicated that the Ukraine-based Hotel Sapphire, where a team of six Reuters journalists was staying, was attacked on Saturday, August 24.

The statement mentioned, “One of our colleagues is missing, and two others have been sent to the hospital for treatment. The remaining three colleagues have been located. We are urgently seeking more information, cooperating with the authorities in Kramatorsk, and providing assistance to our colleagues and their families. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.”

Vadym Filashkin, the governor of Donetsk Oblast, confirmed on Sunday morning via the social media platform Telegram that “Russians have attacked Kramatorsk,” which resulted in two journalists being injured and one journalist missing.

He added, “Authorities, police, and rescue workers are at the scene. Debris clearance and rescue operations are ongoing.”

The Russian Ministry of Defense did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Reuters.

The Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office released a statement on Telegram, announcing that they have initiated a “preliminary investigation” into the attack, specifying that the incident occurred at 10:35 p.m. local time on Saturday (7:35 p.m. Greenwich Mean Time).

The statement mentioned, “Russian forces attacked the city of Kramatorsk, potentially using an Iskander-M missile.”
