On July 29, as the head of a local landowner association, member of the Foreign Affairs and National Defense Committee of the Legislative Yuan of the Republic of China, Wang Ting-yu hosted a banquet for the visit of the “Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China” (IPAC). During the banquet, IPAC delegation leader Decroix called on the international community to unite in facing the pressures and threats from the Chinese Communist Party and Russia.
Representative Wang Ting-yu released a press statement on the 29th regarding the banquet for the IPAC delegation. The delegation consists of parliamentarians from 25 countries worldwide, totaling 49 members of parliament, as well as nearly ten IPAC staff members.
In his speech, Wang Ting-yu emphasized that despite facing military and hybrid warfare threats from the Chinese Communist Party, Taiwan continues to contribute to regional peace and stability and is committed to defending Taiwan’s democratic values.
On the 30th, IPAC held its annual meeting in Taiwan for the first time. The current rotating chair of IPAC is Eva Decroix, Vice Chairman of the Civic Democratic Party (ODS), the largest party in the ruling coalition in the Czech Republic. Furthermore, this IPAC visit is the largest-scale parliamentary delegation to Taiwan in history, with members coming from countries such as the Czech Republic, Japan, the United Kingdom, Australia, Lithuania, and Germany.
Wang Ting-yu stressed that the visit of the IPAC delegation is not only a show of support for Taiwan but also an affirmation of the shared commitment to democratic values. While facing threats from the Chinese Communist Party in terms of military, information, and economic aspects, Taiwan remains steadfast in upholding core values such as freedom, democracy, rule of law, and human rights, striving for regional peace and stability.
Wang Ting-yu hopes that the communication with the IPAC delegation during this visit can deepen mutual trust and understanding, laying a more solid foundation for future cooperation. At the same time, he mentioned with regret that due to certain internal reasons in Taiwan, the country is currently unable to become a member of IPAC and participate in internal meetings held in Taiwan.
During her speech, IPAC delegation leader Decroix expressed gratitude to Representative Wang Ting-yu and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasizing that this meeting is an important opportunity to deepen friendship and express support for Taiwan. She shared the experience of the Czech Republic’s transition from communist rule to democracy and mentioned the historical significance of Czech Senate President Jaroslav Kubera’s official visit to Taiwan in 2019.
Decroix highlighted IPAC’s dedication to defending common values and called on the international community to unite in facing pressures and threats from China and Russia. The Czech delegation stated that deepening friendship with Taiwan can not only strengthen bilateral relations but also bring about tangible commercial cooperation and mutual benefits.
