Henan continues to be hit by severe heavy rainfall in multiple areas. After being attacked by heavy rain, rural areas in Zhengzhou are in a mess. On July 15th, the yellow warning for heavy rainfall escalated to an emergency signal for Pingdingshan in the southeast, northeastern areas of Nanyang, southeastern parts of Luohe, and more regions, where severe heavy rainstorms are expected to wreak havoc.
On July 14th, eastern Pingdingshan, eastern Nanyang, western Zhujiadian, and Luohe in Henan were struck by heavy rainfall. Danjiangkou, Laohekou, and Dengzhou have broken daily rainfall records, with some areas in Nanyang also hit by locally severe heavy rainfall. Monitoring data shows that the automatic station in Wancheng Wadian has received 400 millimeters of rainfall in 24 hours, setting a new record for the strongest rainfall in Henan this year.
A verified internet sales manager from Hangzhou Eagle Chain Technology Co., Ltd., known as “Love Life Memo,” filmed the aftermath of the flood in rural Dengzhou, Henan on the morning of July 15th. In the video, he described the torrential rain that poured down on the area on the 14th, leaving a scene of devastation. Crops were destroyed, cement roads washed away and deformed, and even electric poles toppled by the floodwaters.
In fact, from the night of the 14th until now, heavy rain has been relentlessly pounding the Nanyang Basin in Henan. It’s not only an extremely rare extreme rainfall event in Nanyang’s history but also the most ferocious rainfall since the 720 storm in Henan in 2021.
The China Meteorological Administration issued a yellow warning for heavy rainfall on July 15th at 6:00 am: From 8:00 am on the 15th to 8:00 am on the 16th, there will be heavy to severe rainfall in parts of southwestern Shaanxi, western and northern parts of the Sichuan Basin, central-eastern Henan, northern Hubei, northern Anhui, northern Jiangsu, southern Shandong, central Inner Mongolia, northern Hebei, southeastern Hainan Island, and other areas. Some areas, including eastern Henan, may experience severe heavy rainfall, with locally intense storms. These areas may also experience short-term heavy rainfall and strong convective weather such as thunderstorms and gales.
As of 10:11 on the 15th Beijing time, 46 heavy rain alerts are in effect in Henan.
According to the Henan Provincial Meteorological Observatory, from 7:00 am on the 14th to 7:00 am on the 15th, there was heavy to severe rainfall in parts of southern Henan, Pingdingshan, and Luohe. The southern and southern parts of Nanyang and the southern part of Pingdingshan experienced severe heavy rainfall, with some areas in southern Nanyang facing locally severe heavy rainfall. The average precipitation in certain cities was as follows: Nanyang 75.0 millimeters, Luohe 38.8 millimeters, and Pingdingshan 38.6 millimeters. The top three stations with the highest precipitation are: Wadian in Nanyang City with 408.0 millimeters, Luying in Nanyang City with 373.5 millimeters, and Jinhua in Nanyang City with 362.0 millimeters. The highest hourly rainfall was 102.9 millimeters in Wadian, Nanyang City (from 4:00 to 5:00 on July 15th).
