A heartwarming reunion unfolded as an emotional support dog unexpectedly returned to its owner in the United States after being missing for two years. Samantha Powers from Indiana had almost given up hope of finding her male bulldog, Loki, but recently received a phone call from the Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control, informing her of the miraculous return of her beloved companion.
Powers had been devastated by the disappearance of Loki, her emotional support dog, and had tirelessly searched for him through various means with no success over the past two years. When Loki was brought to the Fort Wayne animal shelter at the end of May 2024 by a caring individual, he appeared happy and healthy, sparking renewed hope for his owner.
Community relations officer Abigail Reyes shared with Epoch Times that upon the discovery of Loki at the shelter, staff speculated that someone may have taken him in temporarily but he eventually escaped from their care, leading him to the safety of the shelter.
Upon the arrival of stray animals at the shelter, one of the first tasks undertaken by staff is to scan for microchips implanted in them. Reyes expressed excitement when the microchip reader signaled a match, indicating they could potentially reunite the animal with its owner.
Subsequently, the shelter successfully contacted Loki’s owner based on the information stored within the microchip. A post on social media by the organization stated: “It was only at the moment when we contacted his owner that we realized how much she had missed him over the past two years. When she unexpectedly learned about her beloved dog’s whereabouts, she could barely contain her excitement!”
Unfortunately, Reyes did not witness firsthand the heartwarming reunion between Powers and her dog. However, she later had the privilege of viewing a video capturing this emotional moment, depicting Loki’s immediate rush into his owner’s arms, showering her with affection, a clear display of his yearning for his female companion.
Reyes emphasized the profound significance for both the shelter and the owner when lost pets are successfully reunited with their owners. She took the opportunity to remind the public that if they happen upon stray or lost dogs, they should bring them to a local veterinary clinic or animal shelter or at the very least report the situation to the shelter. In the event of a lost pet, owners should promptly file a report.
