What’s Different About This Year’s Prime Member Day? How to Prepare

Amazon Prime Day, the annual promotion exclusive to members of the American e-commerce giant Amazon, is set to take place next week. This year’s Prime Day event promises to offer more travel deals than before, with some offers already available ahead of time.

Amazon has officially announced that Prime Day will be held on July 16th and 17th. The event will kick off on Tuesday, just like in previous years, and will run until Wednesday. Prime Day is a summer promotional event tailored for Prime members, offering thousands of products across all categories at special discounted prices for two days.

In recent years, Amazon has extended Prime Day to a two-day event. Before 2020, Prime Day always took place in July, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the sales event was postponed to October. In 2021, Prime Day returned to summer, scheduled for June, and in 2022 and 2023, Prime Day was held in July.

Apart from Prime Day, Amazon has also organized similar promotional events throughout the year to expand the scope of exclusive Prime Day offers. The inaugural Spring Big Sale took place in March this year, and the Amazon Prime Big Sale event was held in October 2023, ahead of the holiday season.

To participate, make sure you have an Amazon Prime membership. You can sign up for a free 30-day trial, after which the membership fee is $15 per month or $139 per year. In addition to fast, free two-day delivery, Prime members can access Prime Video, ad-free music streaming, unlimited photo storage, and Prime Reading. Many of the best Prime Day deals, including Lightning Deals, are exclusive to Prime members.

Once your membership is confirmed, ensure that your payment methods are up to date, including one-click settings and default delivery options, to make sure you can take advantage of the deals promptly.

Additionally, Prime members can set up their latest Amazon searches and receive notifications for the latest deals related to items they are viewing on the Amazon app from now until the event.

When creating wish lists, adding items to cart, or saving for later, Amazon Alexa can notify everyone of the deals 24 hours before they go live. These items can also be purchased via Alexa.

As early deals start rolling in, make sure to bookmark and check the Amazon deals page regularly, as new offers will be constantly added throughout the sales event. Deals during Prime Day can sell out quickly, so it’s essential to check in early and often.

MarketWatch reported that this year’s Amazon Prime travel deals, some of which have already been announced, include up to 40% off Carnival Cruise Line and significant discounts from Southwest Airlines.

Travel deals typically come with restrictions, so shoppers are advised to thoroughly understand their travel plans and the terms and conditions.

So far, six companies have listed promotions on Amazon landing pages before Prime Day: Southwest Airlines, Carnival Cruise Line, Viator (a Tripadvisor Inc. travel booking platform), Turo (a peer-to-peer car rental marketplace), and Avis CAR rental company.

An Amazon spokesperson mentioned that as the event approaches, more information regarding the travel deals will be disclosed.

A report by Deloitte indicates that as Amazon rolls out travel offers, high prices have been a concern for travelers, leading some to scale back holiday plans. An increasing number of travelers are opting for road trips this summer, choosing to drive rather than fly to save money.
