“Deadpool and Wolverine” to be released in six weeks, box office forecast expected to set new record.

Six weeks away from the premiere of “Deadpool & Wolverine” in theaters, reports suggest that this R-rated Marvel movie may set a record-breaking opening weekend box office of over $200 million in North America, surpassing the global total box office revenue of “Captain Marvel 2” in just three days.

According to Deadline, Quorum reports predict that Marvel’s “Deadpool & Wolverine” could conservatively gross between $200 million and $239 million in its opening weekend in North America. No R-rated movie has ever reached $200 million in its North American opening weekend, with the current record belonging to the first “Deadpool” which earned $132.4 million in February 2016.

In recent years, there have been few instances of such groundbreaking box office success in North America. Starting with “Bad Boys: Ride or Die,” which kickstarted the summer box office with a $56 million opening weekend, the momentum continued with “Inside Out 2” breaking records with a $155 million North American opening on the 16th. Based on this trend, “Deadpool & Wolverine” is expected to have the highest summer opening weekend box office in North America.

The report indicates that the male audience interest tracking for “Deadpool & Wolverine” is higher than that of “Spider-Man: No Way Home” six weeks after its release. “Spider-Man: No Way Home” holds the second-highest North American opening weekend box office of all time with $260.1 million, suggesting that the box office forecast for “Deadpool & Wolverine” might increase further.

Furthermore, according to foreign media reports, if this North American box office prediction comes true, it not only dispels the notion of audience “superhero fatigue” but also makes a compelling argument that poorly received films like Marvel’s “The Marvels” (2023) cannot achieve the expected box office levels. “The Marvels” had a North American opening weekend box office of only $46.11 million, with a total global box office revenue of $206.1 million.
