Hu Ge’s Low-key Visit to Taiwan Draws Attention, Surges in Popularity With “Accompanying Birth, Cutting Umbilical Cord”

Recently, mainland Chinese actor Hu Ge’s visit to Taiwan has caused quite a stir, with a particular segment from a recent interview on a mainland program where he talked about accompanying his wife to the delivery room and cutting the umbilical cord, capturing the attention that led him to trend on Weibo. Netizens in China have praised him as a warm and loving man.

Hu Ge, who last attended the 55th Golden Horse Awards in 2028, quietly visited Taiwan after 6 years, staying for less than 24 hours. His tight schedule in Taiwan garnered much attention. On the 12th noon, Hu Ge arrived at Taipei Songshan Airport from Shanghai with a large number of fans awaiting him. Fans screamed and called out his name, inviting him with electronic billboards bearing the name of his character from the popular drama “The Blooms At Ruyi Pavilion,” welcoming him with “Boss Bao’s Prosperous Arrival on Treasure Island.”

Although the event organizers did not allow media interviews, when Hu Ge was asked at the airport if he would like to film in Taiwan, he responded with enthusiasm, saying, “I look forward to it.” Some fans rushed into the crowd to request photos, and Hu Ge graciously stopped and interacted with them.

Having previously worked with Taiwanese artists such as Wallace Huo and Ariel Lin, Hu Ge, when asked if he would contact his artist friends during this visit, jokingly said that he had already been in touch with those he needed to, even mentioning that he knew Ariel Lin was not in Taiwan at the moment, showing that they have kept in touch over the years.

During the “Youth Dialogue” seminar where Hu Ge participated, the main focus was on young directors and film creators from Taiwan, students from the Shanghai Theatre Academy, and the Shanghai Film Academy. He mentioned that he has a special connection with Taiwan and humorously referred to himself as a “cheap and easy-to-use actor,” welcoming young directors to reach out to collaborate with him.

As Hu Ge was about to leave Taiwan, the topic of his experience of “accompanying childbirth and cutting the umbilical cord” started to trend on Weibo. It turned out that the mainland program “Extraordinary Zhuo Er” released an interview video of Hu Ge. As he has a 1-and-a-half-year-old daughter named “Xiao Mei Li” with his 11-year-younger manager Huang Xi Ning, Hu Ge shared heartwarming moments between him and his daughter and his experience of accompanying the childbirth.

As a new father, Hu Ge expressed that he was very nervous at the time because it was his first time being a dad, and he had no experience with anything. He joked that he realized at that moment how fake TV dramas can be, as the excitement and happiness portrayed are completely impossible, and he was just nervous. When the doctor asked him to cut the umbilical cord, his hand was shaking so much that he couldn’t do it the first time, and the doctor even gave him a skeptical look, questioning his ability. It wasn’t until a few days after his daughter was born that he slowly adapted to this new role as a father.

When asked about his happiest moment, Hu Ge shared that on the 12th before he left, his daughter suddenly ran over and said, “Hug me.” He mentioned that his daughter now speaks a lot, and the mention of his daughter brought a big smile of happiness to his face. He said, “I just can’t refuse, she didn’t just say hug, she specifically said ‘hug me’,” then he imitated his daughter looking up at him and saying “hug me” in an adorable manner, exclaiming, “She is really so cute,” and added, “You will feel that she really loves her dad.” The host also burst into laughter upon hearing this.

As Hu Ge talked about his daughter’s smiling face, netizens couldn’t help but comment, saying, “It really feels like Hu Ge is truly happy,” and “The happiness of a daughter’s slave has been materialized.”
