A Chinese blogger known as “Old Cow” living in Ukraine received over 7,000 RMB in newborn subsidies for his daughter. His wife, who is currently unemployed, also received over 4,000 RMB. This news brought great joy and relief to their family.
In a recent video posted on X, the Chinese blogger “Old Cow,” who got married and had a child in Ukraine, shared the happiness of receiving government subsidies after his wife gave birth to their daughter.
He explained that the newborn subsidy for their daughter amounted to 50,000 UAH, approximately over 7,000 RMB. Despite his wife’s unemployment, she also received a subsidy of over 2.8万 UAH, around 4,000 RMB.
According to “Old Cow,” their daughter will continue to receive the subsidy for another year, amounting to 7,000 UAH per month (around 1,000 RMB), totaling for a year. Although the monthly subsidy cannot be withdrawn as cash, it can only be used to purchase baby products from designated stores, with a variety of baby brands to choose from.
Since January 1, 2026, Ukraine has officially implemented a new family childcare support policy. Under the law No. 4681-IX passed by the parliament and signed by President Zelensky, parents or legal guardians of newborns born after January 1 are eligible to receive a one-time subsidy of 50,000 UAH.
Additionally, during maternity leave, employed women are entitled to 100% of their average monthly salary for the past 12 months, while uninsured pregnant women can receive a monthly allowance of 7,000 UAH.
Furthermore, there are subsidies for school-going children as well. Families of first-grade students can receive 5,000 UAH to purchase school uniforms and stationery.
Having married a Ukrainian beauty, “Old Cow” and his wife welcomed a baby and now their baby receives nearly 8,000 RMB in subsidies every month, while his wife receives over 4,000 RMB monthly. Despite Ukraine being a country in conflict, it appears to be happier compared to the mainland in peaceful times. While some countries may not be at war, they are still embroiled in internal conflicts.
The assistance provided by Ukraine to women in their reproductive age and newborns amidst the conflict has surprised Chinese netizens. It shows that even in times of turmoil, people can find happiness.
Since the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine war on February 24, 2022, which has lasted for 4 years and 7 months, the number of Ukrainian soldiers killed has reached up to 150,000 according to the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) based in the US. The United Nations and related human rights organizations estimate civilian deaths to be between 15,000 to 17,000 as of June 2026.
After the release of “Old Cow” video on X platform, netizens commented, “Ukraine urgently needs people.”
Some comments in the discussion section mentioned, “This is a true welfare state that values its people. Wishing their family peace and safety away from the conflict!”
In a report by the Kyiv Post on July 15, 2025, Ukraine increased its birth subsidies nearly fivefold to address the population crisis. A series of financial aid programs aim to support young families and encourage childbirth.
