Wildlife intrusions into American homes, particularly by bears, have become somewhat common occurrences. Most of the time, these incidents do not lead to serious consequences, and videos captured by homeowners often provide a moment of entertainment for viewers. Recently, a baby bear ventured into a residence in Colorado, sparking discussions among netizens.
The curious baby bear managed to slip through a pet door and enter the house, only to be gently guided back outside by the homeowner. However, once outside, it was chased by a dog and ended up climbing a tree in a panic. Matt Ross, a real estate salesperson from Basalt, Colorado, happened to capture this unexpected encounter in his home.
The bear first climbed over a garden fence and then squeezed through the dog door to get inside the house. In the video footage, the bear can be seen climbing up the blinds in the living room, while Matt cautiously guides it towards the exit.
Once outside, the baby bear found itself being chased by a dog and quickly sought refuge by climbing a tree. To everyone’s surprise, the video later revealed a 400-pound (approximately 181 kilograms) mother bear and two other cubs waiting outside the house.
Matt mentioned that the bear family lingered in their backyard for about seven hours until dusk before finally leaving. According to reports, this bear family had previously been captured in Aspen and relocated to Rifle, about 120 miles (approximately 193 kilometers) away, but they had been trying to make their way back to Aspen.
Due to the summer drought and scarcity of food in high-altitude areas, these unexpected visitors have caused both amusement and concern among viewers. Many commenters discussed the bears’ circumstances, with one remarking, “It’s obvious they just wanted some snacks.”
Another internet user praised the homeowner’s calm demeanor, noting, “I appreciate your composure, even your dog wasn’t scared! Glad you didn’t report them to the authorities.”
Yet another commenter wrote, “It’s still just a baby, much better than a dog as a pet because they don’t bark unnecessarily.”
