Neighbor Reports Marijuana Smell, New York Asian Man Arrested for Growing 2,000 Marijuana Plants.

A Chinese man in Brooklyn was arrested last Thursday (June 6) for cultivating 2,200 marijuana plants in a building he owned in upstate New York.

According to a press release from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office in New York, the Criminal Division, together with the Amsterdam Town Fire Department, received a report from residents about a strong smell of marijuana emanating from a house on Chapman Drive. They then launched an investigation into possible illegal activities in collaboration with the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, Amsterdam Town Fire Inspectors, and the New York State Cannabis Management Office.

On June 6, investigators discovered a large marijuana cultivation site at the location, where over 2,200 plants measuring 2 to 3 feet tall were found. The fire department sealed the building due to “violations and unsafe fire hazard conditions.”

The owner of the building was identified as 53-year-old Chuanjin Sun, who was accused of cultivating a large quantity of marijuana and distributing it across various locations in New York State without a valid cultivation permit.

Sun was indicted for possession and illegal cultivation of marijuana. He appeared in a local court for arraignment, posted bail, and was released pending his next court appearance.
