Recently, Chinese citizen journalist Zhang Zhan, who was released from prison last month after serving a four-year sentence for exposing the truth about the Wuhan pandemic, has once again been summoned and threatened by the Shanghai police.
On June 11th, a human rights website reported that Zhang Zhan, a defender of human rights and citizen journalist in China, was recently summoned and threatened by the Shanghai police after being released from prison.
On June 9th, Zhang Zhan posted on her social media, stating: “The police said that if I cross the red line again, I will be put back in. ‘Red line’? Whose red line are you protecting? Is it the lives of the common people or the ‘opinions of the authorities’? I don’t want to go back in, and I am not the one who should go back in.”
Zhang Zhan was sentenced to four years in prison by the Chinese Communist authorities for exposing the truth about the Wuhan pandemic and was released on May 13, 2024. After her release, Zhang Zhan was briefly missing, causing concerns about her safety in the public. The U.S. State Department also expressed its concerns about her case.
Amid widespread attention, Zhang Zhan expressed her gratitude to the public for their help through a video on May 21.
In the video, she said, “On May 13th at 5 a.m., the police sent me back to my brother’s house in Shanghai. Thank you all for your help and care, I hope everyone is doing well.”
However, according to the “Zhang Zhan Support Group,” she currently only has “limited freedom.”
