On Thursday, during the United Nations General Assembly in New York, British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi. Miliband directly warned that Britain will not tolerate any hostile activities conducted by Iranian-affiliated groups within the UK.
According to Sky News citing information from the British Foreign Office, Miliband stated that the UK “will not tolerate intimidation, threats, or hostile activities within its borders.”
The two officials also discussed the importance of the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and the reopening of the strategic Strait of Hormuz. Miliband emphasized that the UK will decisively combat any threats posed by Iranian-affiliated groups within the country.
This meeting comes at a time when the UK is stepping up its efforts to counter Iranian-related cyber activities.
Last week, the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre revealed that networks associated with the Iranian government had utilized a spyware named “CHOSEN BRICK.” They used this spyware to conduct spear-phishing attacks through communication platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram, to steal emails, information, and other sensitive data.
