Recently, a consumer in Jiangsu province reported that two boxes of “Ma Sansan” pure milk purchased by him contained clear liquid when poured out. He had bought a total of 10 boxes, and at the time of discovering the issue, only 3 boxes were left, with these milk cartons mainly consumed by children. The company involved attributed the problem to an error in the production process, but there has been no conclusive result from the relevant investigation.
According to reports from “The Paper,” the consumer purchased 10 boxes of “Ma Sansan” pure milk through a live broadcast, with each box containing 10 cartons.
“Ma Sansan” is a dairy brand from Xinjiang. The milk in question is produced by Xinjiang Ma Sansan Dairy Co., Ltd. and sold by Ma Sansan Jiang Pure Milk Industry Co., Ltd., registered in Changji City, Xinjiang.
The consumer mentioned that upon opening one carton, he felt that it “had no taste,” and only upon cutting open the packaging did he discover the presence of clear liquid inside. In a video, he was shown cutting open three unopened cartons, with the first and third ones pouring out clear liquid while the second one contained white milk.
At the time of discovery, only 3 boxes out of the 10 purchased remained. The consumer mentioned that these milk cartons were mainly consumed by children, expressing concern that they might have already consumed the faulty products, causing him to feel “scared and nauseous.”
The related video gained around 20,000 likes and over 50,000 shares before subsequently being deleted.
On September 22, the “Ma Sansan Official Flagship Store” issued a statement attributing the pouring of clear liquid from the milk cartons to a worker’s sorting error, stating that the water package used for production testing had been mistakenly mixed into the finished product. This explanation has not yet been confirmed by investigation results.
The company claimed to have inspected the batch records in question and tested the same batch samples, but as of the writing of this article, they have not yet disclosed the test results, nor have they revealed how many abnormal products entered the market, which regions they were sold in, and whether a recall of the same batch of products will be initiated.
On September 23, the relevant authorities in Changji City mentioned in a notification that the investigation into the incident is ongoing, without releasing the test results of the products in question or giving a definitive assessment of the reasons provided by the company. Public information also did not show the quantity of problematic products, sales distribution, or recall arrangements.
Similar incidents have occurred in the past. In March of this year, pure milk produced by Qinghai Xuefeng Mammoth Dairy was reported by consumers to have poured out a transparent bitter liquid. At that time, the company also attributed the issue to a production process, citing equipment malfunctions leading to water entering the packaging, which workers failed to promptly remove.
This incident has sparked skepticism among netizens. Some Weibo users believe that the fact that such products can enter the market indicates issues in both the production and quality inspection processes. Another netizen expressed surprise at the high price of the product, initially considering it an “unknown brand,” and raised the question of whether consumers could receive compensation.
Furthermore, some netizens mentioned that similar situations have occurred with other brands before. If the clear liquid inside the packaging is not just ordinary water, “that would be quite alarming.”
