In Michigan, USA, a septuagenarian man who regularly buys lottery tickets has always dreamed of winning a jackpot and believed he would eventually hit it big. Recently, his wish came true as he won a $1.5 million lottery jackpot.
The Michigan Lottery announced in a press release on September 15 that the 74-year-old man from Oakland County hit the $1.5 million jackpot with a Lotto 47 Double Play ticket he purchased back in June.
The numbers on his ticket were 34-35-41-44-45-47, which matched the winning numbers drawn on June 17, bringing him this windfall and proving his self-proclaimed “prophecy” of winning right.
He shared that he frequently buys tickets for games like Mega Millions, Powerball, and Lotto 47, always telling his girlfriend that one day he would strike it rich.
He said, “She’s always the one who checks my tickets, so when she called me saying, ‘You really won! You’ve hit the jackpot!’ and told me how much I’d won, I was amazed!”
The man recently visited the Michigan Lottery headquarters to claim his prize. He opted for a one-time payment of approximately $1.04 million instead of receiving the full amount in installments. He plans to share this money with his family and invest some of it.
Each Lotto 47 ticket costs only $1. Players select six numbers from 1 to 47, and they can add an extra $1 for Double Play, with the top prize being $1.5 million. If no one wins the jackpot in a particular drawing, the prize money rolls over until someone wins.
Lotto 47 drawings take place every Wednesday and Saturday at 7:29 p.m.
Similarly in Michigan, there was a woman who had been buying Lotto 47 tickets for years. After decades of effort, she finally hit a $1.1 million jackpot this year at the age of 65. She also chose to receive the prize in a lump sum, receiving approximately $0.762 million.
