Hong Kong star Jacky Cheung, who has been absent for 6 years, kicked off his “Jacky Cheung 60+ Tour Concert” at the Taipei Arena on May 31. However, he suddenly cancelled tonight’s (7th) performance 4 hours before the show, citing feeling unwell, and confirmed the cancellation of the next three nights’ performances as well.
The organizers announced this afternoon on Facebook that Jacky Cheung had to cancel the shows scheduled for June 7, 8, and 9 due to a respiratory tract infection. They will provide refund and compensation arrangements starting tonight.
Jacky Cheung personally addressed his Taiwanese fans through Universal Music’s Facebook fan page, stating: “Hello, my fans in Taiwan! I’m Jacky. I’m very sorry, but I started feeling unwell after returning from Hong Kong last week. I saw a doctor and confirmed that I had contracted RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus), which is usually a virus that children get infected with. They say as you get older, you start reverting back to being a child, so I got infected. I’m currently in Taiwan, hoping for a miracle to happen, waking up and being able to rehearse at the venue as usual, and performing at night, but… the miracle didn’t happen.”
He revealed his current condition, stating, “My throat is still sore, I can’t speak properly, and I have a runny nose, nasal congestion, and other common cold symptoms. Please don’t worry about my health. Tonight, I have to confirm that I won’t be able to perform, disappointing the audience who bought tickets, causing trouble for the organizers. I deeply apologize and say ‘I’m sorry!’ I hope to recover soon and return to the stage to perform for everyone. I wish everyone good health!”
Upon hearing the news, although fans were disappointed, they expressed their wishes for his speedy recovery and hope that the shows could be postponed instead of being cancelled. Some comments included, “We hope for a postponement rather than a cancellation – please! We’ve been looking forward to it for so long… Wishing for a speedy recovery!” “Please don’t refund the tickets. Can we reschedule or add another show instead?” “Jacky, please rest well. We will wait for you. Wishing you a speedy recovery.” “Please don’t refund the tickets. Can we reschedule instead? Tickets are hard to come by.”
Fans have shown their understanding and support for Jacky Cheung’s health situation and expressed their eagerness to see him back on stage when he has fully recovered. They have sent their well wishes and hoped for a positive outcome for the rescheduling of the concert dates.
