Hong Kong’s April online sales value up over 11% year-on-year

The latest online shopping data in Hong Kong was recently announced by the Hong Kong Census and Statistics Department. In April, the value of online sales in the local retail industry increased by 11.3% compared to the previous year, reaching 2.418 billion Hong Kong dollars. When calculated against the total retail sales of 29.576 billion Hong Kong dollars, online shopping accounted for 8.2%, an increase from the 6.3% share reported in the same month last year. The total value of online sales for the year amounted to 31.937 billion Hong Kong dollars, a decrease of 5.40% compared to the same period last year.

Breaking down the figures by category, the value of online sales without physical stores in April reached 1.16 billion Hong Kong dollars, showing a year-on-year increase of 13.8%. The total value for the year amounted to 14.071 billion Hong Kong dollars, marking a 14.07% increase compared to the same period last year. On the other hand, the online sales amount for other retailers was 1.258 billion Hong Kong dollars, indicating a 9.2% increase compared to the previous year. The total yearly sales for this category stood at 17.864 billion Hong Kong dollars, representing a 16.61% decrease year-on-year.
