Recently, officials in Shanxi Province have been successively investigated, with the latest news being that Wu Yong, the Deputy Mayor of Linfen City, turned himself in for investigation during his tenure.
On June 4th, the Shanxi Province Discipline Inspection Commission announced that Wu Yong, the Deputy Mayor of Linfen City, Shanxi Province, is suspected of serious violations of discipline and laws. He voluntarily turned himself in and is currently under investigation.
Chinese netizens have expressed concerns over the reasons why Wu Yong chose to turn himself in and how his actions will impact the local officialdom.
Late at night on June 2nd, Zhao Yongjin, the Secretary of the Xinyuan County Committee in Changzhi City, Shanxi Province, was officially announced to be under investigation.
In Xinyuan County, Changzhi City, the Lishenyu Coal Mine of Tongzhou Coal Industry Group experienced a fatal gas explosion on May 22nd. The initial official report stated that the accident resulted in at least 90 deaths, which was later revised to 82. Additionally, 2 people remain missing and 128 people were hospitalized due to injuries. However, the authorities have not provided updates on the situation of the 2 missing individuals.
After the accident, the authorities stated that the person in charge of the coal mining enterprise involved had been taken under control. The State Council of the People’s Republic of China set up an investigation team for the accident. The Supreme People’s Procuratorate of the Communist Party of China announced on the evening of May 26th that the major responsibility case of the Shanxi Xinyuan Coal Mine explosion had been designated for special prosecution.
Following the public news of Zhao Yongjin’s investigation, the overseas platform account “Zuo Tang Hang” expressed: “Xi Jinping’s anti-corruption campaign is a joke! It is estimated that if it were not for the coal mine gas explosion incident, this county secretary would have had smooth sailing in his career. Now, Zhao Yongjin, the Secretary of Xinyuan County, has been thrown out to take the blame.”
