94 Guangdong Students Suspected of Food Poisoning, School Accused of Concealing Facts

Recently, some mainland netizens have been sharing videos on social media revealing a food poisoning incident involving 94 students at the elementary school division of Huamei Experimental School in Puning, Lu’feng, Guangdong Province.

According to reports, some parents have claimed that the school authorities concealed the truth, disbanded parent groups, refused to provide explanations, and the school’s food has long-standing hygiene issues. Official reports downplayed the incident, citing students experiencing gastrointestinal discomfort.

Elephant News reported that some parents indicated that parent groups were disbanded without explanation. Mr. Li, a parent, stated that the school told him his child was fine, but in reality, the child had already suffered from diarrhea seven times.

Blogger “Clown” posted a video expressing sorrow for the children lying in the hospital holding their stomachs. These were children who had to take out loans to pay tuition fees to attend the school. Despite the high cost of meals per semester, basic hygiene remains an issue. Children have been experiencing these problems since the first grade, leading to the current food poisoning incidents. Rather than addressing the problem, the school authorities allegedly concealed information from parents, disbanded class groups, suppressed the incident, and even threatened students.

So far, the video has triggered nearly 50 netizens to leave comments:

“Oh my, my friend’s child attends this school and came home complaining of gastrointestinal issues, thinking it was an individual case, not realizing it was a collective food poisoning incident.”

“Parents must stand united. Don’t be fooled.”

“My daughter just transferred to this school this semester. Hearing this news, I shudder in fear. She always complains about the food, and I thought she was just picky.”

“Seeing this information truly breaks my heart. This school charges high fees in the Lu’feng area. How could they lack conscience like this?”

Some netizens expressed concerns about the possibility of the aforementioned videos being deleted. A netizen named “A Shengde Flower Art” stated that several videos were instantly removed after posting, indicating the danger of sharing such content.

A Guangdong netizen, “Drunk in You,” revealed that on the surface, Huamei Experimental School in Puning, Shanwei City, appears to be a prestigious school, but it actually has many issues that need improvement, including food safety concerns. In light of this severe food poisoning incident, authorities should hold those responsible accountable and enforce necessary improvements.

An official from the Lu’feng Health Bureau in Guangdong Province stated to local media that they have sent personnel to the hospital and are actively following up on the incident.

On September 12, the Lu’feng Education Bureau issued a situation report: On the morning of September 11, 94 students from the elementary division of Huamei Experimental School in Puning, Shanwei City, began experiencing gastrointestinal discomfort and were sent to the hospital for treatment. As of now, nine students are still being kept in the hospital for observation upon parents’ request.
