7-year-old boy initiatively accompanies lonely elderly person dining alone

When a 7-year-old boy noticed an elderly woman having lunch alone at a restaurant, he chose to sit with her and make her day brighter.

On June 7th, mother Crystal Tamez with her four children, including her son Ezra, were having lunch at a Braum’s burger joint in Rockwall, Texas. Ezra spotted an elderly lady dining alone behind his mom.

Ezra packed up his food and said to his mother, “Mom, we should go sit with her.”

Initially hesitant, Mrs. Tamez was touched by her son’s determination and didn’t want to refuse his request, so she agreed.

After politely asking if she could join 84-year-old Pat for lunch, Mrs. Tamez learned that Pat had been battling depression since her husband passed away a few months ago.

Mrs. Tamez told The Epoch Times, “Pat has a hard time getting out, so I really appreciate Ezra noticing her and going over to have lunch with her.”

During a 30-minute conversation, Ezra talked to Pat about his interest in football.

Mrs. Tamez said, “Ezra told Pat he likes football and plays quarterback. The senior then asked about his siblings.”

As Mrs. Tamez went to refill her cup, she realized how touching and precious the moment was and decided to capture it on her phone.

As the mother and son left the restaurant, the elderly woman thanked Ezra for making her day brighter.

Later, Ezra told his mother, “This isn’t normal, Mom. No one should be alone, she shouldn’t be sitting there by herself.”

Mrs. Tamez was moved by Ezra’s reaction, describing her son as “very kind, lovely, and generous,” the type of child who always looks to help others whenever he can.

Yet, Ezra wasn’t the only one of her children who showed great compassion. Mrs. Tamez recalled how Ezra’s siblings often sacrifice their school break times to play with children with special needs. Another child named Arrow became close friends with their school bus driver even before they started going to church together.

“They are like that,” Mrs. Tamez praised her children.

The mother believes that it was a divine intervention that brought them together at that moment.

Pat currently resides in a nursing home in Rockwall, where she lost her first husband when she was young. She met her most recent husband nine years ago. Unfortunately, he battled brain cancer throughout their eight years together. Despite this, the elderly couple made the most of their time together, often traveling.

Since her husband’s passing, she hadn’t visited the Braum’s restaurant, where she and her late husband used to frequent, until that day she met Ezra and his mother.

Mrs. Tamez shared, “I am 100 percent convinced that God put us there to meet at that particular time. I think God used Ezra to comfort this widow and let her know she’s not alone.”

Proudly, the mother said, “God will arrange for others, like Ezra, to be disguised angels to remind this elderly woman she is not forgotten.”

Since their first encounter, Mrs. Tamez has stayed in touch with Pat and even invited her to Ezra’s football game.

Mrs. Tamez and her husband Eli are entrepreneurs who have been married for 20 years. Their parenting philosophy emphasizes connections and faith among people. They don’t allow their children aged 5 to 14 to use iPads, encouraging them to engage in conversations with people in the real world.

By sharing this heartwarming story, Mrs. Tamez hopes to highlight the importance of encouraging children to step away from screens, enter the real world, and build strong interpersonal relationships.
