6th Anniversary of Yuen Long Attack: Los Angeles Chinese Protest Communist Party’s Destruction of Hong Kong’s Freedom.

【Epoch Times July 23, 2025】The indiscriminate attack that occurred at the Yuen Long MTR Station in Hong Kong six years ago has had a lasting impact on the overall image of Hong Kong and the harm inflicted on its people should not be underestimated. The truth behind the incident remains shrouded in mystery, with the public’s attitude starkly contrasting with that of the Hong Kong government, revealing a crisis of trust between the public and the authorities.

The Yuen Long white-clad mob indiscriminate attack is seen as a landmark event in the Hong Kong anti-extradition movement. Civilians returning home late at night were ambushed by hundreds of unidentified individuals at the station, with the police response unusually slow, resulting in dozens injured and sparking public outrage. Currently, 22 individuals have been charged – 14 white-clad attackers and 8 non-white-clad individuals (including then Legislative Council member Lam Cheuk-ting), with all except one white-clad attacker convicted of “riot” and sentenced to imprisonment ranging from two years and one month to three years and one month.

Last Sunday (July 20th), over 80 Chinese individuals in Los Angeles organized a protest outside the Chinese Consulate General under the auspices of the China Democracy Party United Headquarters-West Division. They held up banners reading “Defend Hong Kong until the end,” “Liberate Hong Kong, Revolution of our times,” and “Protest against the Communist Party’s assault on anti-extradition protesters,” condemning the Chinese Communist Party as the mastermind behind this heinous event, indiscriminately exercising violence against Hong Kong residents, and undermining the city’s democracy, freedom, and rule of law.

Regarding the causes and responsibilities of the Yuen Long incident, there are differing accounts between Hong Kong residents and the police. Citizens captured videos showing numerous white-clad attackers assaulting and pursuing pedestrians, with Lam Cheuk-ting also injured in the attack. Despite the Independent Police Complaints Council’s investigation report describing the incident as a “mutual scuffle,” it has struggled to gain public acceptance.

Hu Jun, who participated in the protest in Los Angeles, was in Hong Kong six years ago and witnessed the anti-extradition movement. “That was not a so-called riot, it was a group of young people defending their homes and fighting for the freedom and rule of law they deserve with sweat and even blood,” he stated. Seeing Hong Kong, once prosperous and stable, in turmoil just over two decades after its handover to China, he expressed shock and heartbreak, voicing support for Hong Kong protesters in their fight for genuine democracy and autonomy.

Li Jie, Vice Chairman of the China Democracy Party Los Angeles Division, believes that the Chinese Communist Party is behind the Yuen Long terror attack. “After the attack, Hong Kong police arrived on the scene but failed to arrest any of the assailants involved in the attacks,” he said, citing public opinion at the time questioning the collaboration between Hong Kong police and the CCP in orchestrating the white-clad mob, organically enabling violence and launching terrorist attacks.

“That night, it was not just physical injuries, but also the tearing apart of Hong Kong’s rule of law and conscience,” protester Zhou Lanying noted. “Six years have passed, many perpetrators have yet to face justice; many brave protesters have been detained long term, sentenced, or forced into exile.” She believes the Yuen Long attack was a retaliation by the CCP regime against Hong Kongers’ resistance to the extradition bill, aimed at intimidating and suppressing peaceful protesters.

In June 2020, less than a year after the Yuen Long attack, the Hong Kong National Security Law came into effect; by mid-June this year, hundreds of Hong Kong residents have been arrested on charges related to the National Security Law, with 165 individuals convicted, significantly diminishing citizens’ freedom of speech. Consequently, the United States announced in July of the same year the cancellation of Hong Kong’s special status and relevant commercial benefits.

Yu Hailong, a former operator of a landscaping company in mainland China, joined the China Democracy Party domestically due to discontent with the CCP’s tyranny. During his speech, he pointed out, “Freedom is a decisive factor for social prosperity; without freedom, there is no free trade, no free economy, only the economy of a dictator, false prosperity.”

He cited the current situation in China as the best evidence, mentioning recent emigrants leaving the mainland experiencing firsthand the economic downturn. In first-tier cities like Shanghai and Shenzhen, house prices are plummeting drastically, with a 70% drop in Shenzhen, and famous commercial streets in Shanghai like Huaihai Road and Nanjing Road seeing numerous physical storefront closures. Hong Kong is now following in the footsteps of these mainland cities.

“In my understanding, there is no official in mainland China who is not corrupt; without connections in business, it is impossible to succeed,” Yu Hailong stated. He expressed disillusionment with the rapid regression of history by the CCP over the past decade, prompting him to transfer his shares and move to the United States.

Protesters hope for Hong Kong to regain its previous freedom of speech and rule of law without illicit interference from the CCP, to return to democracy, and revive prosperity.
