Every September at Evergreen Farm in New Jersey, an Elderly Day event is held to honor the elderly. This year, the event is scheduled for September 12th (Thursday), where seniors will be treated to a free sumptuous lunch, seasonal fresh fruits, and a captivating traditional Korean performance, bringing everyone together to enjoy a pleasant time.
Evergreen Farm in New Jersey spends tens of thousands of dollars each year to prepare free meals and fresh fruits for Elderly Day. This traditional Chinese event of respecting the elderly and caring for the young has not been held for the past four years due to the impact of the pandemic. Many seniors are looking forward to this year’s event at Evergreen Farm.
The owner of Evergreen Farm, Jin Zhongyi, emphasized that respecting the elderly is a traditional virtue and he hopes to remind people not to forget this tradition. He mentioned that it is currently the season for ripe fruits, making it possible to provide the elderly with the freshest fruits. Jin Zhongyi said, “Since childhood, we have been taught to respect the elderly and practice filial piety towards our parents. However, in this era, where self-love prevails, many have forgotten the need to care for the elderly. In this regard, I hope to plant the seed of filial piety in people’s hearts.”
