On January 7th at 9:05 am, a 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck Dingri County in the Shigatse City of Tibet. The earthquake had a depth of 10 kilometers, with the epicenter located at 28.50 degrees north latitude and 87.45 degrees east longitude.
According to the China Earthquake Administration, the average altitude within a 5-kilometer radius of the epicenter is about 4,259 meters above sea level. The epicenter is 34 kilometers from Dingjie County, 36 kilometers from Dingri County, 67 kilometers from Lhaze County, 71 kilometers from Saga County, 92 kilometers from Angren County, 164 kilometers from Shigatse City, and 379 kilometers from Lhasa City.
There are seven villages within a 5-kilometer radius of the earthquake, including Tangren Village, Xue Zhu Village, Gare Guoji Village, Meiduo Village, Chaji, Lacang, and Kangqiong. Within 20 kilometers, there are two townships, Coguo Township and Quluo Township.
According to the rapid report from the China Earthquake Administration Network, there have been a total of 29 earthquakes of magnitude 3 or above within 200 kilometers of the epicenter in the past five years, making this earthquake the strongest among them.
