6.8 magnitude earthquake hits Taiwan’s eastern waters on September 10th afternoon

Taiwan’s Central Weather Bureau has released information about an earthquake that struck at 3:45 pm today (10th) measuring a magnitude of 5.8 on the Richter scale, with a depth of 10 kilometers. The epicenter was located 32.8 kilometers northeast of the Hualien County Government (in the eastern sea area of Taiwan).

The Central Weather Bureau of Taiwan stated that the earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 at 3:45 pm today had a maximum intensity of level 4 in Hualien County and Yilan County. Taipei also felt significant shaking, and the bureau issued a national alert for Yilan County and Hualien County.

Earlier this morning, there were three consecutive earthquakes off the coast of Hualien County in Taiwan, occurring at 9:35, 9:37, and 9:40 respectively, measuring magnitudes of 5.1, 5.0, and 4.1 on the Richter scale. Wu Jianfu, director of the Earthquake Forecast Center of the Central Weather Bureau, mentioned that these three earthquakes are still considered aftershocks of the magnitude 6.3 earthquake that occurred in 403. The stress is currently being adjusted between north and south, and the possibility of larger aftershocks in the future cannot be ruled out.
