5-story building collapses into river in Guangxi, 2 workers killed in Gansu mudslide

Heavy rain continues to wreak havoc in various regions of mainland China. In the city of Baise in Guangxi, a five-story residential building located by the river collapsed and fell into the water. In Longnan City, Gansu Province, continuous heavy rainfall triggered a landslide, resulting in the deaths of two construction workers.

According to reports by Red Star News, on the morning of July 2nd, around 6 a.m., in Xinzhou Town, Longlin County, Baise City, Guangxi, someone noticed a five-story self-built house by the river leaning dangerously. To prevent the building from collapsing and causing harm to pedestrians, residents have been guarding the area.

It is reported that due to rainwater erosion of the foundation, the building collapsed and fell into the river around 7 a.m. on July 2nd.

The house was built by local villagers, and the owner was working in another city to earn money for renovation costs. The Baise Meteorological Bureau had issued warnings for heavy rainfall in the area for over 10 consecutive days.

From July 2nd to 3rd, heavy rainfall hit certain areas in Longnan City, Gansu Province, causing flooding in some streets in Huixian County and triggering mudslides in mountainous regions.

Local authorities announced on July 3rd that as a result of the mudslide, one person was injured and another went missing. The injured person died in the hospital, and the missing person was later found dead during the rescue operation — both were workers at a local construction site.

The Gansu Provincial Meteorological Bureau stated that from 6 p.m. on July 2nd to 7 a.m. on July 3rd, heavy to torrential rain occurred in the southeast and central regions of the province. The highest recorded rainfall was 220 millimeters in Wudu District of Longnan City. On July 3rd, the meteorological bureau upgraded the rainstorm warning from orange to red in Longnan City.

On July 3rd, the China Meteorological Administration continued to issue a blue warning for heavy rain, forecasting that on July 4th at 2 p.m., parts of eastern Gansu, northwestern Sichuan Basin, southeastern Jilin, eastern Liaoning, and other areas could experience 100 to 180 millimeters of heavy rain, along with instances of thunderstorm strong winds and severe convective weather.
