Recently, a family of five from Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, encountered a car accident while traveling in Weihai, resulting in the death of the grandfather, serious injuries to the child, multiple fractures for the grandmother, and varying degrees of injuries to the father and mother.
According to a report by Jiu Pai News on August 9th, witness Mr. Wang stated that he saw the offending vehicle entering the closed community like it lost control. It sped through at an extremely high speed, hitting roadside stone pillars and flowerbeds, then damaging a row of parked vehicles, before knocking down 5 pedestrians, and finally crashing into his friend’s car to come to a stop.
Mr. Wang revealed that his friend’s car was pushed five to six meters away, rendered unusable on the spot. He said, “My friend was in the car at the time, and after the collision, he twisted his neck and waist. He’s in the hospital now, but luckily his car stopped the offending vehicle. Otherwise, there were bystanders nearby, and the consequences could have been unimaginable.”
The five victims are from the same family – the grandfather, grandmother, father, mother, and child. On August 8th, the child’s aunt, Ms. Qin, said that her niece, Yue’er, had just graduated from kindergarten. To fulfill the child’s wish to see the sea, the family traveled from Taiyuan, Shanxi to Weihai. The accident happened on the second day of their trip, before they could even make it to the seaside.
A video provided by Ms. Qin shows a man in black sitting on the ground, holding his daughter in his arms, his mother lying behind him, his wife next to him, and his father lying motionless at a distance, helplessly crying out for help to passersby.
Ms. Qin emotionally recounted, “It was my brother-in-law’s birthday that day. They came out of the rented guesthouse to celebrate and have a nice meal together. Just as they stepped out, not even a minute passed before the accident happened. The car rolled over the elder man, and he couldn’t make it to the hospital. His birthday turned into his father’s memorial day.”
Her voice trembling with tears, Ms. Qin shared that the doctor said the child’s brain swelling was severe, and she was no longer able to breathe on her own. During the accident, “Yue’er’s grandmother used all her strength to lift Yue’er up. If it weren’t for that lift, the child would have been lost on the spot.” Currently, the grandmother is being treated for multiple fractures in the hospital.
Ms. Qin disclosed that her brother-in-law had fractures in his hands and pelvis. The doctor advised him to be hospitalized for cast immobilization. Since their daughter was undergoing treatment at Rongcheng Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, “He simply bandaged himself at the outpatient clinic of the Chinese medicine hospital and went to the ICU to watch over Yue’er.”
Her cousin had just undergone surgery. Ms. Qin revealed that she hadn’t dared to tell her cousin the actual situation yet because the doctor had mentioned that during the operation, her cousin said that if the child didn’t make it, she wouldn’t want to live either. If the child couldn’t be saved, this family might fall apart. “We don’t care about anything else. As long as Yue’er survives, there is hope. My brother-in-law said he would take care of her for a lifetime even if she became paralyzed, even if it means selling everything we have to cover the medical expenses.”
Following the incident, the Rongcheng Public Security Bureau in Weihai, Shandong Province, reported that on August 5th at around 4:30 pm, there was a vehicle collision involving pedestrians on the internal road of a closed community in Rongcheng City. It resulted in “1 fatality, 1 person in critical condition undergoing treatment, and 3 persons with minor injuries in stable condition.”
The report stated that the suspect had been subjected to coercive measures. The preliminary determination of the accident was that the suspect “lost control of the operation, ruling out suspicions of drunk or drugged driving.”
Comments from netizens in the video section mentioned, “Checked many comment sections on videos. The 63-year-old aunt mistook the gas pedal for the brake and hit the car. The vehicle was still out of control, and she is a retired teacher.” Another comment identified the driver as a woman from Northeast China with a Guangdong license plate, driving a white car, and the incident occurred inside the community premises, involving multiple collisions.
