5 injured and 1 missing in house collapse in Changchun, citizen journalist threatened with video.

On the morning of June 27th, a old three-story building collapsed suddenly in Kuancheng District, Changchun City, Jilin Province, causing at least 5 injuries and 1 person missing. Mainland netizens shared on-site videos, but were asked by the police to delete them.

According to the emergency department of Kuancheng District in Changchun City, Jilin Province, on the 27th, around 8 a.m., during the preparatory work for renovation and reinforcement of an old three-story building at the intersection of Renmin Avenue and Pearl River Road in Kuancheng District, the building collapsed unexpectedly, trapping 2 construction workers. One person was rescued, while the other remains missing. The incident also resulted in 4 injuries at the scene.

Netizens in mainland China revealed that they had filmed the scene and posted it online, but were threatened by the police. “I shot the video while taking my child to school in the morning, but was asked to delete it by Xiguang Police Station.”

The video shows that the scaffolding set up for renovation also collapsed along with the building, scattering debris. The person filming mentioned that the collapsed building also hit a car.

Netizens commented, “Strongly oppose the renovation of old buildings. Houses over forty years old are better off being demolished and rebuilt.”

Recently, there have been several incidents of building collapses in mainland China.

On June 21st, a restaurant building collapsed in Wangbao Village, Sichuang Town, Shiping City, Shanxi Province, reportedly due to a gas tank explosion, resulting in multiple injuries. The scene turned into ruins, with media reporting 9 people injured. However, authorities reported 5 injuries, including 3 serious.

On May 31st, a two-story commercial building near the Minority School in Longzhou Town, Longzhou County, Chongzuo City, Guangxi Province suddenly collapsed, trapping at least 5 people. On May 27th, a five-story residential building in Datong Town, Daping, Tongling City, Anhui Province partially collapsed, resulting in at least 4 deaths and 1 injury.

On April 21st, a building collapsed at the former site of Moudeli Piano Factory in Shanghai. The building was undergoing renovations at the time. The piano factory had witnessed the hundred-year development history of pianos in Shanghai.
