On May 12th at 5:11 AM, a 5.5 magnitude earthquake struck Lazi County in Shigatse City, Tibet. The epicenter of the earthquake was located at a depth of 10 kilometers.
According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, the epicenter was at 28.91 degrees north latitude and 87.54 degrees east longitude. The average altitude within a 5-kilometer radius of the epicenter is about 5019 meters.
Reports from Xinhua News Agency indicated that the earthquake was strongly felt, with some people being awakened by the shaking. As of 6:30 AM, there were no reports of casualties after inspections in Mangpu Township. Local residents have been living in temporary structures since the 6.8 magnitude earthquake in Dingri County occurred.
On January 7th of this year, a 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck Dingri County in Shigatse City, Tibet, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of people and the collapse of thousands of houses.
