American Airlines experienced a temporary flight suspension on Tuesday morning due to technical issues, lasting for an hour. The company is currently working on resuming flight operations.
It is expected that Tuesday will be one of the busiest travel days of the year.
Shortly before 8 a.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) responded to American Airlines’ request and lifted the previous flight suspension order on all American flights.
According to aviation data provider Cirium, as of earlier on Tuesday, the technical problem did not result in widespread flight cancellations or delays.
In a memo to pilots earlier on Tuesday, American Airlines informed them that the malfunction affected a crucial system used for flight take-offs.
American Airlines stated earlier on Tuesday, “Our team is working hard to resolve this issue as quickly as possible, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience to our customers.”
American Airlines stock price dropped by 1.1% in pre-market trading.
On December 7th, a flight by American Airlines from Dallas, Texas to Minneapolis, Minnesota, experienced a sudden leak in the lavatory, causing flooding in the cabin. A short video captured by a passenger showed water leaking from the rear lavatory, flowing down the aisle towards the front. Panicked passengers looked down at the water on the floor, with some standing up from their seats to move away from the accumulating water. A social media influencer paired the footage of the flooded airplane with the theme song “My Heart Will Go On” from the popular 1997 film Titanic, which went viral online.
