The mainland “Hip-Hop Bagua Shop” drama troupe’s cross-talk actor Xiu Mingyan passed away due to complications from diabetes leading to heart failure on September 13th at 5 pm at Peking University Hospital, at the age of 42. On September 15th, Li Mingzhi posted a tribute mourning his partner Xiu Mingyan, lamenting the early death of his good friend.
Xiu Mingyan, born in 1983, originally named Xiu Hongwei, adopted the name Xiu Mingyan after apprenticing. Born in Tianjin and raised in Beijing, he also had a nickname called “Jinjing”. Joining the “Hip-Hop Bagua Shop” in 2012, he partnered with Li Mingzhi in 2017, with notable works including “Descending from the Sky”, “Yellow Crane Tower”, “Capturing Cao”, “Hongyang Cave”, “Su San Qi Jie”, and more.
In his tribute, Li Mingzhi recalled that Xiu Mingyan was “always cheerful in life, never fought, never argued, very polite to everyone, enjoyed joking around with others, always enthusiastic, helpful, caring towards friends, modest and low-key.” He mentioned that friends often called Xiu Mingyan “Xiu’er”, those who knew him earlier called him “Hongwei”, while Li Mingzhi usually called him by his childhood nickname “Jinjing”, making the relationship seem more affectionate. Li Mingzhi expressed his deep grief, saying, “There will never be such an affectionate term of address again. Rest in peace, my friend.”
According to mainland media “Extreme News”, in July 2023, Xiu Mingyan had posted a lengthy tribute on his personal social media account mourning his deceased mother; then in November of the same year, he uploaded a video saying, “If forty years later, you send off your parents for the last journey, with no immediate family left, unmarried, what would you do?”
At that time, a netizen replied, “If that really happens, then I will live my life well when alive, and when I die, my parents will come to take me, just like they used to pick me up from school…” Xiu Mingyan captioned the video below: “At 40, I have truly experienced these… May my parents be safe and happy in that world.” indicating that both his parents had passed away, leaving him with no immediate family. According to troupe staffers, Xiu Mingyan had been ill for quite some time before his passing.
