Trump to announce Treasury Secretary nominee next week.

According to Epoch Times on November 17, 2024, advisers of US President-elect Trump (Trump) stated that the choice for Treasury Secretary will be announced next week.

Trump’s senior adviser Corey Lewandowski told The Hill, “This week is Homeland Security Week, and you have already seen the list of candidates.”

“But next week, the President’s team will unveil the economic team, including National Economic Advisers and Economic Advisory Committees,” he added.

Trump announced appointments for key positions in some departments this week, such as former Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz as Attorney General, former independent presidential candidate RFK as Secretary of Health and Public Services, and Fox News host Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense.

Regarding the selection of Treasury Secretary, Lewandowski mentioned that Scott Bessent, the founder of hedge fund Square Group, or Howard Lutnick, the Chairman and CEO of bond trading company Cantor Fitzgerald, are the most likely candidates to be appointed as Treasury Secretary.

Several media reports indicated that Bessent and Lutnick have backing from different individuals close to Trump, but Trump has not yet finalized the choice.

Lewandowski emphasized that the Treasury Secretary needs to be someone “who knows how to ensure that our country and economy run again, ensure that we do not have high interest rates, ensure that we benefit from the country’s manufacturing industry and prioritize it, rather than overseas manufacturing.”

“Both of these candidates have extensive experience on Wall Street,” he said. “Both are recognized experts in their respective fields.”
