On the night of April 24th at 00:08, a 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck Niu Street Township, Er Yuan County, Dali Prefecture, Yunnan Province. The epicenter was at a depth of 10 kilometers, and tremors were felt in 9 townships of Er Yuan County.
According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, the epicenter was located at North Latitude 26.27 degrees, East Longitude 100.00 degrees. Villages within 5 kilometers of the epicenter include Datong Village, Niu Street Village, Longma Cave, Nandeng, Beideng, Liandu Village, Wenqu Village, Shibei Village, Aotou Village, and Shang Wenqu. Townships within 20 kilometers include Niu Street Township, Sanying Town, Xiyi Town, Shaxi Town, Cibilake Town, Yuhu Town, Sideng Town.
The epicenter is 18 kilometers from Er Yuan County, 31 kilometers from Jianchuan County, 37 kilometers from Heqing County, 62 kilometers from Lanping Bai and Pumi Autonomous County, 66 kilometers from Yulong Naxi Autonomous County, 69 kilometers from Lijiang City, and 304 kilometers from Kunming City.
Local residents expressed their fear through social media, “It happened in our village, houses are cracking, shaking every now and then. Now everyone is hiding in open spaces outside, people inside say even in the open courtyard, they feel the ground shaking, what should we do? There are only elderly and children at home.” Another resident posted, “In Shaxi Ancient Town. Can’t sleep now, just felt two more tremors.”

The earthquake was felt in multiple areas. According to comments from netizens, “Strong tremors felt in Panzhihua.” “Strong tremors felt in Lijiang.” “Jiangwei, very clear, the entire house and bed jerked twice, waking me up directly.”

As of 7 a.m. on the 24th, preliminary investigation shows that 442 households suffered property damage, but basic infrastructure such as roads, water facilities, power, and communication were not affected. There were no casualties reported and no secondary geological hazards occurred.
Prior to this, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake hit Myanmar, the strongest earthquake globally in 2025, with noticeable tremors also felt in Rui Li, Yunnan, and many other areas.
