4.6-magnitude earthquake hits Dabancheng District in Urumqi, Xinjiang

On the afternoon of the Mid-Autumn Festival, a magnitude 4.6 earthquake struck the Dabancheng District of Urumqi, Xinjiang. Local residents reported feeling strong tremors.

According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, the earthquake occurred at 16:33 on September 17th in the Dabancheng District of Urumqi, Xinjiang (latitude 43.72 degrees north, longitude 88.26 degrees east), with a depth of 32 kilometers.

Villages within 10 kilometers of the epicenter include Karaxialak, with no towns within 20 kilometers, and towns within 50 kilometers include Aksu Township, Xigou Township, Donggou Township, Chaiwobao Township, Dabancheng Town, and Tiechangou Town.

The epicenter is 40 kilometers from Dabancheng District, 51 kilometers from Tianshan District, 51 kilometers from Shuimogou District, 54 kilometers from Shayibake District, 55 kilometers from Fukang City, and 51 kilometers from Urumqi.

Following the earthquake, many local residents reported feeling strong tremors.
