Recently, a 29-year-old man named Zhou from Xunyang, Shaanxi, jumped into a river on his wedding day, and his body was found six days later. On October 14th, Zhou’s father revealed that before the incident, Zhou and his bride Li had an argument inside the wedding car. He then left a note saying, “I have never been so wronged. I won’t go through with this marriage,” before jumping into the river.
Zhou’s father, Mr. Zhou, told China News Weekly on October 14th that after the incident, under the coordination of the local government, representatives from both the groom’s and the bride’s families met. He saw Li, the bride, during the meeting. However, both sides blamed each other for the incident and failed to reach a consensus, leading to a disagreement.
Mr. Zhou disclosed that on the day of the incident, there were people from their side accompanying the couple. According to their accounts afterwards, Zhou and Li were arguing inside the car the whole time. The last words Zhou left behind were, “I have never been so wronged. I won’t go through with this marriage.”
Previously, in an interview with the newspaper, Mr. Zhou had also expressed, “My child had no psychological issues. I don’t know how much pressure he was under during that time to cause a mental breakdown.”
According to the official report from Xunyang on October 4th, a man went missing after jumping into a river near the Xun River Bridge on October 3rd. Through preliminary investigations, it was revealed that the man who jumped into the river was Zhou, 29 years old, a resident of Luhe Town, Xunyang City. Around 10 o’clock on October 3rd, the man, due to emotional distress over wedding matters, ran from the wedding hotel entrance to the Xun River Bridge and jumped into the water.
On October 12th, Zhou’s family told Southern Metropolis Daily that from October 1st to 2nd, Zhou was preparing for the wedding at the bride’s house. Around 11 pm on the 2nd, Zhou returned home in a bad mood but did not disclose the details.
As they understand it, “Zhou and the bride had been in a relationship for many years. Although they were about to get married, they had not obtained the marriage certificate, and the two had conflicts several times due to this issue.”
“We really want to know what happened in those two or three days before the wedding. The child didn’t tell us much, and in many cases, we only heard from others,” the family said. They hope to see the footage from the dashcams in the leading wedding car where Zhou was before jumping into the river, but unfortunately, there is no relevant video recording available.
According to the family member, Zhou’s body is currently at the funeral home, and Zhou’s mother is still hospitalized due to emotional issues. “The relevant department informed us that the main reason for the suicide was overwhelming financial pressure.”
