Katie Ho raises $361 million in August for campaign, allocates more time for election

On September 6, 2024, the campaign team of the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, announced on Friday that the Democratic Party’s 2024 presidential nominee raised $361 million in August, with nearly 3 million people contributing donations. This substantial amount of funding has provided her with the means to spend more time campaigning in battleground states.

Harris’ campaign team revealed on Friday that in her first full month as the presidential nominee, they raised $361 million in collaboration with the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and the Joint Fundraising Committee. By the end of August, the bank deposits had reached $404 million.

According to the Associated Press, Harris’ massive funding will fully support her final two months of campaigning, including $370 million for media advertising costs and paying the salaries of over 2,000 field staff in more than 310 offices distributed across battleground states.

In July, Harris raised $310 million, the majority of which was raised after President Biden withdrew from the race and she took over the campaign.

Julie Chavez Rodriguez, Harris’s campaign manager, stated in a release: “In a short amount of time, Vice President Harris’ candidacy has sparked a historic, broad, and diverse alliance that possesses the passion, energy, and courage to win a closely contested election.”

“As we enter the final stages of the election, we will ensure that every hard-earned dollar is used to win the support of voters who will determine the outcome of this election.”

Harris’ enormous fundraising also brings her an additional benefit – she can now freely participate in campaign events across the country without spending too much time fundraising.

Despite expecting to attend large fundraising events in New York and Los Angeles this month, Harris has been devoting a significant amount of time to campaigning in battleground states and preparing for next week’s televised debate with former President Trump, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.

According to invitations reviewed by The Wall Street Journal, Harris’s campaign team is assembling a series of top Democratic fundraisers to raise funds for her in the coming weeks, including politicians and celebrities.

Although fundraisers with agents are common for both parties in elections, the number of these events allows Harris to have more time to campaign in battleground states, crucial for the election outcome.

Former Massachusetts Democratic Congressman Barney Frank will host a campaign event for Harris in the Boston area this month, saying to The Wall Street Journal: “In terms of using time, this is a huge advantage for her. Whether running for office or holding office, your most scarce resource is time.”
