“Brain Twister 2” breaks 1 billion overseas box office record for animated films.

Pixar’s hit animated sequel “Inside Out 2” continues to dominate the global box office. Following its record-breaking success as the first animated film to gross over $1.6 billion worldwide, it has once again made history by reaching $1.002 billion in box office revenues outside of North America, becoming the first animated film to surpass the $1 billion mark overseas.

The original film, “Inside Out,” released in 2015, captivated audiences with its creative portrayal of human emotions. Its sequel, “Inside Out 2,” once again showcases Pixar’s ingenuity by introducing new emotions in the protagonist Riley’s mind. In addition to the original five emotions – Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust – the sequel adds Anxiety, Embarrassment, Exhaustion, and Envy (or Admiration), guiding Riley towards the complexities of the adult emotional realm.

The story of “Inside Out 2” follows the journey of the various emotions – Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust – shaping Riley’s kind and positive personality during her teenage years. As Riley enters high school, her mind headquarters welcomes four new emotions – Focus, Affection, Apathy, and Shyness.

In the recently released trailer, viewers witness Riley celebrating her 13th birthday, only to discover that the emotions’ control panel has turned orange, signaling the arrival of a new character named “Anxiety.” The presence of Anxiety, representing teenage worries, startles the emotions as they grapple with how to coexist with this new addition. How will the clash between the existing and new emotions unfold? And how will it influence Riley’s personal growth and development?

According to reports from Variety, “Inside Out 2” has solidified its reign as an animated film powerhouse in cinematic history. It has not only secured the top spot in global, North American, and overseas animated box office rankings but also sits atop the 2024 global and North American box office charts. As of August 25th, the film has amassed a global box office revenue of $1.649 billion, with $1.002 billion coming from overseas and $646.3 million domestically. Several weeks ago, “Inside Out 2” surpassed “Frozen 2” to become the highest-grossing animated film in history.

The reports highlight that the overseas box office success of “Inside Out 2,” reaching $1 billion, has resonated with audiences in numerous countries and regions. Currently, the largest foreign markets include Mexico ($102.2 million), followed by Brazil ($80 million), the UK ($72.7 million), and France ($62.6 million).
