Mainland Chinese actress Zheng Shuang has been facing a series of scandals since 2021, including allegations of “surrogacy abandonment” and tax evasion, which led to her being officially blacklisted by authorities. She has been ordered by the court to pay fines totaling over 200 million yuan. On August 22, she posted a tearful selfie on her new Weibo account “Little Zhengzi Office ZS” with a message saying, “Time speaks for itself, years have passed silently, happy birthday.”
In September 2023, Zheng Shuang created a new Weibo account named “Little Zhengzi Office ZS” where she occasionally speaks of herself in the third person. She has posted messages like “Time will reveal all truths” and “The past is gone, the future is here, live well and we will meet slowly,” emphasizing that she will take responsibility for her mistakes and believing that the truth will come to light someday. However, in 2024, she reduced her frequency of Weibo updates, with her last post on June 7 encouraging Chinese students taking the college entrance exam.
August 22 marked Zheng Shuang’s 33rd birthday. In the recent photo she shared, wearing a striped shirt, her teary eyes and disheveled appearance seemed to evoke sympathy from her devoted fans who left comments like, “Are you crying? Don’t cry, Shuangzi,” “Take care of yourself,” and “Happy birthday.”
Known for starring in popular idol dramas such as “Meteor Shower” and “Love O2O,” Zheng Shuang rose to fame alongside actresses like Zhou Dongyu, Guan Xiaotong, and Yang Zi, being dubbed the “Four Flowers of the ’90s” by the Southern Entertainment Weekly. However, her career took a sharp downturn due to scandals involving surrogacy, tax evasion, leading to her being shunned in the entertainment industry, and compelled to pay substantial compensations to the investors of related television series.
In recent years, Zheng Shuang has faced a string of troubles, including being demanded to repay taxes, fines, and surcharges totaling nearly 299 million yuan by the Shanghai Tax Bureau in August 2021. She has also been subject to enforced fines amounting to 128 million yuan and 90.5 million yuan by the court.
According to a Weibo influencer, creditors flew to the United States to collect debts from Zheng Shuang, visiting four to five cities in a span of 20 days but failing to meet her in person. They only received a message through an intermediary saying, “Don’t talk to me about this matter.” It is rumored that Zheng Shuang, who has reportedly “fled” to the United States, has yet to make any payments.
