25 buildings in a residential area in Shenzhen were suddenly unevenly subsiding and sealed off.

On the afternoon of June 16th, unusual noises were heard in a residential area in Longgang District, Shenzhen, followed by cracks appearing in the buildings and suspected subsidence of the foundation, leading witnesses to believe there was an earthquake. Currently, 25 buildings have been sealed off.

The Longgang District Emergency Management Bureau reported that at around 16:50, irregular subsidence and wall cracking were observed in a building at No. 4, Lane 3, Guowu Village, Longcheng Street, Longgang District, with no casualties reported.

According to a report from Shenzhen Radio and Television Group’s “First Scene,” residents revealed that the affected residential area consists of two buildings, one with 5 floors and the other with 7 floors, each floor housing 12 households. Following the incident, residents of both buildings have been evacuated.

On June 17th, a local merchant near Guowu Village told the “Xiaoxiang Morning News” that the cracks in the buildings occurred suddenly, “We heard a sound like an earthquake. The first time we thought it was renovation upstairs; the second time we found it strange, and some tenants ran out saying, ‘Is there an earthquake coming?’ followed by residents from the other building saying the house is leaning.”

The merchant stated that the main building with cracks is located behind their shop, with a two-meter-long gap visible on the ground floor, wide enough to fit fingers, and the tilting of the roof visible to the naked eye. Apart from this building, other nearby buildings have also experienced cracks, peeling off of wall coatings, and other phenomena. Guowu Village is a mixed residential area with locals and migrant workers.

June 17th, an update from the Longgang District Emergency Management Bureau in Shenzhen reveals that a total of 25 buildings in the subsided area and surrounding regions have been sealed off, with 783 people evacuated. Due to the proximity of the affected buildings, Tiancheng School has suspended classes for a day to inspect any hidden dangers.
