The United Chinese Language Schools Association of America held an online award ceremony for the academic competition on July 19th (last Saturday), recognizing outstanding students in the Chinese idioms competition, Mandarin speech competition, and multimedia presentation competition. The ceremony lasted for two hours, attracting nearly 90 principals, teachers, parents, and students from different regions who witnessed the excellent performance and learning achievements of the students through the virtual platform.
This year’s three competitions took place gradually starting from May, with the Chinese idioms competition on May 17th where 53 students participated, and eventually, 12 stood out. The Mandarin speech competition on July 12th attracted 30 teams, while the multimedia presentation competition held on July 13th, with the theme “The Contributions and Influence of Chinese Americans in the United States,” saw 11 student teams registering.
President Wang Wanjun expressed gratitude to parents and teachers for their support and to colleagues at the association for their cooperation in her speech. She emphasized that all students, whether they received awards or not, demonstrated perseverance and talent during the learning process, deserving recognition. She encouraged students to apply the Chinese they have learned in their daily lives, express themselves confidently, and mentioned that the most valuable national character of the Chinese people is perseverance and hard work, which will surely shine in American society in the future.
Deputy Director Cai Jiahua of the South Bay Overseas Chinese Education Center also attended the award ceremony, congratulating all the winning students and affirming the enthusiastic participation of students this year, showcasing the vitality of overseas Chinese language education and the younger generation’s passion for cultural heritage. She thanked parents and teachers for their dedicated guidance and praised the association for incorporating current events and diverse topics in the competition design, making Chinese language learning more interesting and inspiring.
Judging teachers from across the United States, including Councilor Shao Yang from Fremont, Northern California, attended the event. In addition to the award ceremony, the event featured exciting examples of the Chinese idioms competition and arranged demonstrations and comments by the first-place winners of various competitions. Teachers provided professional advice on content performance, language fluency, body language, presentation visuals, and background lighting, assisting students in improving their public speaking and multimedia production skills in the future.
Furthermore, during the event, it was announced that the impressive videos of the first-place winners in the Mandarin speech and multimedia presentation competitions will be uploaded to the official website of the United Chinese Language Schools Association of America (ncacls.net) within two weeks.
