2024 Greater New York Taiwan University College Association Meeting: Songs and Dances

On the evening of August 24th, the Taiwan Alumni Association of Greater New York held its annual meeting in Flushing. Over 200 alumni and compatriots gathered to celebrate, showcasing a vibrant atmosphere filled with singing, dancing, and laughter, strengthening the bond of friendship among classmates.

The president of the alumni association, Lin Yingjun, highlighted the growth of the association. Since taking office as president last year, she has expanded the association from 9 alumni groups to 12, including NTNU, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, National Taipei University of Technology, Fu Jen Catholic University, National Taiwan University of Arts, Shih Hsin University, Soochow University, Feng Chia University, Tsinghua University, Chinese Culture University, Chung Yuan Christian University, and Ming Chuan University. This year, they welcomed the addition of alumni associations from “National Chiao Tung University” and “Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages,” bringing the total number of alumni associations to 14.

Every annual meeting features a special segment where alumni proudly carry their respective association flags into the venue, symbolizing the pride alumni have for their alma mater and the honor their alma mater holds for them.

This year, the opening song was changed to “Graduation Song”. Lin Yingjun explained that this familiar song evokes beautiful and unforgettable memories of youth. It reminds everyone of the days they graduated from school, left the campus, and later traveled far to pursue education, start families, and build careers. Each person has their own story, and as they gather together at this age, it represents their nostalgia for their hometown and gratitude for the education received at their alma mater. They reminisce about the camaraderie with their fellow classmates while striving and developing in a foreign land, appreciating the nurturing environment provided by their alma mater.

Lee Chih-chiang, the newly appointed director of the New York Economic and Cultural Office, attended the event and praised the rich talents within the alumni association, emphasizing its role in enhancing Taiwan-US friendship. He extended his best wishes for the prosperity of the association’s affairs.

During the celebration, the alumni delivered high-quality performances of spicy songs and dances, with fellow alumni joining in the fun on the dance floor. The night also featured a raffle draw with prizes including tickets from China Airlines, creating an unforgettable evening for everyone involved.
