2024 Global Best Airport Ranking: US Airport Makes Top Ten

During this summer, the number of travelers has increased significantly, and preparing for travel certainly includes choosing better airports for departure and arrival.

On Tuesday, July 9th, AirHelp released the 2024 global best and worst airport ranking report. The rankings are primarily based on the punctuality rates, customer feedback, food quality, and shopping choices of 239 airports worldwide.

Punctuality of arrivals and departures accounts for 60% of each airport’s score.

According to the latest rankings, Doha International Airport (DOH) in Qatar claimed the top spot this year, moving up from fifth place last year. Cape Town International Airport (CPT) in South Africa and Chubu Centrair International Airport (NGO) in Japan ranked second and third, respectively.

However, what is truly surprising this year is the performance of the United States: 10 American airports made it into the top 50, including Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD, 11th place), Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL, 16th place), Nashville International Airport (BNA, 18th place), and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX, 21st place).

In contrast, in the 2023 AirHelp global airport top 50 list, there were only three American airports listed: Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP, 13th place), Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA, 34th place), and Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW, 38th place).

According to Bloomberg, AirHelp’s CEO Tomasz Pawliszyn stated in an email that the United States has made significant progress in the rankings for 2024, with seven airports entering the top thirty. He added that with airports restructuring their personnel post-COVID-19 pandemic, the airport experience for passengers traveling to the US is improving.

The most notable airport in this ranking is Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC). As the best airport in the US, it is ranked eighth in the world this year. The new facilities at Salt Lake City Airport are advanced, having been opened in September 2020 and continuously improved since then. The final phase of construction is expected to be completed this fall.
