In a coincidence, the 2024 nationwide tour of the “Selfish Giant” puppetry troupe is set to continue after successful shows in major cities like Seattle and Atlanta. The next stop is Houston, Texas on June 1st and 2nd at the Asia Society Texas Center, featuring two performances and a puppetry workshop. Through family-friendly puppetry productions, the troupe showcases the endless creativity of Taiwanese puppetry and theatrical arts.
Established in 1999, the “Selfish Giant” puppetry troupe adheres to the concept that “everything is a puppet,” pioneering a new style of contemporary Taiwanese puppetry art that blends magic with philosophy. With more than 50 productions under its belt, the troupe remains dedicated to original puppetry content and cross-cultural exploration in puppetry arts.
The featured program of this tour, “Selfish Giant,” is a classic theatrical piece suitable for all ages, adapted from the famous fairy tale by English literary giant Oscar Wilde. It tells the story of a giant who transforms from selfish to generous and ultimately finds his way to heaven guided by the divine. Combining a captivating narrative, vibrant visual effects, and a talented cast, the show promises a spectacular visual feast for audiences of all ages.
