20% of Americans Emigrate Due to Political Differences, Millennials Especially Value.

During each presidential election, the lives and emotions of many Americans are greatly impacted. A recent survey by real estate listing website Realtor.com® shows that political leanings can even influence a significant portion of Americans in their choice of residential location.

The survey reveals that approximately 23% of respondents indicated that the political leanings of local residents and national politics would affect their decision on where to live.

About forty percent of Americans stated that their political views align with the majority in their residential area, while only 8% believe their views differ from those of local residents. 14% of Americans mentioned they recently moved to a place where their political views align more closely with the community, and nearly 1/5 of participants expressed that relocation was due to disagreements with the political views of the local populace.

Among respondents who believe their political views align with those of local residents, approximately half were frequent voters, 30% occasional voters, and 18% were non-active voters.

Individuals who value alignment with the political views of local residents accounted for 31% of frequent voters, 17% of occasional voters, and only 8% of non-active voters.

Regarding political leanings, those who believe American politics influences their choice of residential location accounted for 30% of liberal respondents, with conservatives and moderates at 27% and 18% respectively.

34% of liberal respondents believe it is important to share political views with the majority in their residential area, with conservatives and moderates at 27% and 15% respectively. Approximately 25% of liberal respondents are more likely to consider relocation due to political disagreements.

In contrast, individuals who do not believe American politics affects where they live accounted for 35% of conservatives, 40% of moderates, and 27% of liberals.

Among those who do not consider relocating due to political disagreements, the percentages are 56% for liberals and conservatives, and 48% for moderates. Only 22%, 19%, and 11% of the three groups respectively are considering relocation due to the political atmosphere.

In terms of age groups, one-third of millennials indicated that their decision on where to live is heavily influenced by American politics, with 25% for Generation Z, 21% for Generation X, and 16% for Baby Boomers.

Individuals who prioritize sharing political views with local residents account for 32% of millennials, 23% for Generation X, 22% for Generation Z, and 16% for Baby Boomers.

Meanwhile, the proportion of individuals considering relocation due to conflicting political views with the majority in their residential area is 28% for millennials, 14% for Generation X, 20% for Generation Z, and 10% for Baby Boomers.

In the United States, Baby Boomers are typically those born between 1946-1964, Generation X includes those born between 1965-1980, millennials born between 1981-1996, and Generation Z born between 1997-2012.
