On May 9, it was officially reported in China that Lu Wenjun, a member of the Party Committee and Deputy General Manager of China First Heavy Industries Group Co., Ltd. (referred to as “China First Heavy Industries Group”), is suspected of serious violations of discipline and law and is currently under investigation. The specific reasons for Lu Wenjun’s investigation have not been officially disclosed. Lu Wenjun becomes the 19th senior official to fall from grace this year.
Public records show that Lu Wenjun, a male born in August 1967 in Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province, started working in August 1989 and joined the Communist Party of China in June 1988. He is a Senior Engineer of Professor Rank.
Lu Wenjun has served as the Chairman and Party Secretary of China Second Heavy Machinery Group Co., Ltd., as well as the Chairman and Interim Party Secretary of Guoji Heavy Equipment Group Co., Ltd. He was appointed as a member of the Party Committee and Deputy General Manager of China First Heavy Industries Group in November 2019.
China First Heavy Industries Group, formerly known as the First Heavy Machinery Plant, was established in 1954 and is one of the important state-owned backbone enterprises managed by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, involving national security and the lifeline of the national economy.
Following Lu Wenjun’s downfall, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China has publicly reported investigations into 19 senior officials this year.
Recently investigated senior officials include: Jin Xiangjun, Deputy Secretary of the Shanxi Provincial Party Committee and Governor; Long Xiang, Party Secretary and Director of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province; Duan Chenggang, Member of the Party Group and Vice Chairman of the Political Consultative Conference in Chongqing Municipality; and Xu Xianping, former Member of the Party Group and Deputy Director of the National Development and Reform Commission.
